Meet Dr. Starr
Medicine Is My Calling. It Has Never Been Just a Job.
After more than two decades practicing Emergency Medicine, I decided to shift my focus to keeping people out of the ER. I now focus on holistic, preventative care, healthy aging, and helping people take a proactive role in their health.
My goal is not simply to help people live longer, but to help them maintain the energy, independence, and quality of life that make those years meaningful.

A proactive approach to the years ahead.
After more than two decades practicing Emergency Medicine, I decided to shift my focus to keeping people out of the ER.
Many chronic conditions develop quietly over years. The early warning signs are often overlooked, but that is the best time to intervene. Prevention is even better.
I now focus on holistic, preventative care, healthy aging, and helping people take a proactive role in their health. I look at you as a whole person.
My goal is not simply to help people live longer, but to help them maintain the energy, independence, and quality of life that make those years meaningful. What you do now sets the stage for your life 30 years from now. You invest money for your retirement. You need to invest in your health too or you will not be able to do all of the things that you have been looking forward to.
Health is your most valuable asset.

The Art of Putting the Pieces Together
The right questions can change the entire picture.
I was taught in medical school that 90% of the diagnosis is in asking the right questions. That is very much an acquired skill that I have honed after more than 20 years in Emergency Medicine.
Emergency physicians meet complete strangers and have only minutes to figure out what is happening.
We gather information. Separate what matters from what does not. Recognize patterns. Put the pieces together and make decisions that can save lives.
I often describe medicine as a puzzle.
The true diagnosis is not necessarily obvious. The key is knowing which questions to ask and what tests to order when indicated.
I bring that same approach to Starr Vitality & Wellness today.
How many times have you or someone you know been told that all of your labs are normal, but you are left wondering why you feel lousy? We can take a deep dive into things and figure out what is really going on.
What if we took a different approach to healthcare?
- Educate people on the factors that influence long-term health
- Help people remain active and healthy as they age rather than struggling
- Focus on opportunities that are being missed for prevention
From Emergency Medicine to Prevention
For more than two decades, I cared for patients when something had already gone wrong.
Over time, I became increasingly able to predict emergencies before they happened.
I created Starr Vitality & Wellness to be a practice focused on helping people stay healthy, active, informed, and independent for as long as possible. I use my 20+ years of experience in Emergency Medicine, plus my advanced subspecialty training in Non-Operative Sports Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, to try to keep you out of the ER and enjoying your life.
Small, sustainable changes compound over time to yield big health benefits.
You should not have to be a physician to make informed decisions about what is best for you, your health, and your life.
Let's work together so that you can be your best version of you.
Personal Experience Matters
Some of my most important lessons did not come from medical school. They came from my life.
Yale Rowing Injury
I had a significant neck and back injury while rowing at Yale that set me up for a lifetime of pain. It was a nonsurgical problem, and I was left to figure out for myself how to deal with chronic pain so I could stay active without taking medication.
Cancer Survivor
I have been a cancer survivor since I was 31 and underwent surgery and six months of chemotherapy for Hodgkin's lymphoma. I was a shell of my former self at the end of treatment, and it took me three years to get back to normal with no guidance from anyone.
ADHD Diagnosis
I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 40s. This not only explained my increasingly severe anxiety and helped me learn how to manage it, but it also gave me a framework to understand my whole life.
Additional Personal Experiences
I have dealt with shift-work-induced insomnia. I have navigated hormonal changes like many of my patients are dealing with.
I use these experiences to help take better care of you.
Healthcare is not one-size-fits-all. You should not fall through the cracks or be left to figure things out for yourself if you do not fit into a simple checkbox. That is why I believe care should be personalized. Every person arrives with different goals, different challenges, and a different vision for what a healthy life looks like.
Filling In Your Healthcare Gaps
Many patients do not need another doctor. They need someone to help them make sense of everything.
Someone who takes the time to listen, explains options, helps navigate an increasingly complicated healthcare system, and puts the pieces together.
That is why I describe my role as your Healthcare Safety Net.
I work alongside your existing healthcare team to help ensure you understand your options and can make informed decisions with confidence.
Because you should not have to be a physician to understand your healthcare.
Education. Honesty. Partnership.
The best healthcare decisions are made through partnership.
One of the most influential people in my medical career was my residency director, Dr. Don Benson. He taught me that patients value honesty, transparency, and genuine relationships. I have carried that lesson with me throughout my career. I believe the best healthcare decisions are made through partnership. My role is not to tell you what to do. My role is to educate, guide, and help you make the decisions that are right for you.
Let's Make the REST of Your Life the BEST of Your Life!
Whether you are looking for guidance, prevention, healthy aging strategies, healthcare navigation, or simply a physician who takes the time to listen, I would be honored to be part of your journey.
